Hey Chris,
I came across your site while looking for some info on my VecFlash. I just recently got back into my Vectrex by getting some new controllers that make the experience better than the busted controller I had. I have the old VecFlash Serial but lost my Serial cable and don’t have a computer with a Serial port. I got a USB to Serial cord and a Serial (DB9) to 3.5mm but cannot get the VecFlash program recognize the cart and/or flash a .bin file. Based on your expertise, would you say the problem may be that I am using a cord configuration that won’t work or that I am trying to run the VecFlash program with Windows 10? It’s been so long since I used the VecFlash that I am at a loss. I see that you have one so any guidance would be appreciated. I am not a computer wiz by any imagination, just a Vectrex fan so was hoping to load in some new games. Thanks for any and all help.
Hi Patrick, Sorry about the delay in answering, it’s been a while since I last logged in.
I haven’t owned one for quite a while now but IIRC the VecFlash serial version wants to use a particular COM port or range? You may need to go into the USB to serial device properties in Windows and manually reassign the COM port number so it is set to the correct port number (or port range) that the VecFlash requires. Richard Hutchinson (the maker of the VecFlash/VecMulti) is often in the Atariage Vectrex forums as well as the “Vectrex Fans Unite” facebook group. He may be able to help you further. Good luck!
